Art By Pauline
About
I have an Associates Degree in Fashion Design from Fashion Institute of Technology in NY, consistently rated one of the top 5 schools for design in the world.
I have a lifelong love of art, and have taken courses in art history, textile design, printmaking, weaving, and watercolor, and have become a successful watercolor and mural artist, with murals and paintings hanging in homes across the US.
I've been teaching watercolor classes to adults and kids for the past 6 years, and love seeing their skills grow! I'm leaving my job as a Special Education teacher to pursue art full time this year, and am looking forward to sharing my love of art with even more students.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to see what they've done, explain my process for teaching, show examples of works by famous artists that go along with the lesson(and teach a little art history in the process). I then do a demo for each step along the way, then watch the student and encourage as they complete the step on their own. I strongly believe in the student doing all of their own work from start to finish, and always avoid taking my pencil or brush to their piece.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 3 years of exploring all areas of art in a wonderful high school in New York that had a fabulous art department, two years of art and design classes at Fashion Institute (SUNY), watercolor classes with numerous watercolor artists, and 10 years working in elementary and middle schools. I also have 5 years experience teaching watercolor to ages 8 to adult.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $30.00 per hour for private lessons, plus the cost of supplies- typically about $30.00 per 4 weeks. I like to provide supplies because I've found that in most cases, the quality of the finished work depends greatly on the quality of supplies used, so I purchase quality products for my classes.
How did you get started teaching?
I've always wanted to be an art teacher! When I was getting ready to apply to college, my guidance counselor discouraged me from going into education( wish I hadn't listened to him!!)and went into fashion design instead. After several years in that field I took time off to be a full time mom, and then went into education as an assistant with special ed. students. 5 years ago I started teaching after school art classes, and adults at my church and love it! I love to encourage and develop skills, and love helping people discover their inner artist.
