About
I have over 20 years of experience cheering, coaching and judging rec, school (NFHS & AACCA) and allstar cheerleading (USASF).
I started Spirit Technique following a judging season where I felt that athletes were being rushed through skills with poor technique that was leading to injuries and shortening their time in the sport.
Spirit Technique’s core values are safety, technique, execution and proper progressions. To ensure that your athlete learns in a safe and encouraging environment we
(1) Evaluate your child - to learn what skills they have, their learning prefer, and their personal language
(2) Develop customized curriculum - create a personalized curriculum (drills, exercises, circuits and stretches) for your child that speaks to their strengths and preferences
(3) Assess & Review - Evaluate how your child is progressing & update their curriculum
(4) Celebrate - throughout your child's program celebrate their mental, physical, and emotional successes.
I enjoy knowing that my athletes are having fun. The smiles, the giggles, the excitement that they show when they complete a drill, improve their flexibility or perform a skill on their own is amazing.
I can't help but smile thinking about the girl that couldn't do a forward roll a year ago that is now doing back bends, the athlete that couldn't do a handstand that can now do back bend kickover, or the athlete that couldn't do a roundoff whose roundoff rebound is absolutely beautiful.
It's not the skill that makes me smile, it's their energy right after they performed it. Not just the first time but every time after, as they remind themselves they can do it. It's the confidence they gain with each drill, exercise and circuit. It's their growth and development mentally, physically and emotionally that reinforces that regardless of their age, height, weight, etc. they are capable with the right encouragement, training and commitment.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
In April of 2018 I started working with a young lady who had no tumbling skills, and was extremely shy and nervous about tumbling. I remember one of our very first sessions she didn't want to try the warm ups because she wasn't sure she could do them. After working through drills for a few months she was able to complete a forward roll.
That forward roll empowered her. The next thing I knew she was pushing herself to do bridges, handstands, backbends, and more. It was just this March (2019) that I watched her do a backbend and lift one leg. It may not seem like a lot but it was amazing. Seeing how much her cougar and confidence increased was wonderful.
