About
My goal as an artist is to help people learn to appreciate art while encouraging creative expression. I have worked in the Creative art field for over two decades, teaching, lecturing and creating. Part of my passion for art comes from seeing the world as a continuum of ongoing learning. I emphasize the importance of an art by focusing on the idea that art makes a person more creative and perceptive. I believe art allows everyone to increase positive attitudes towards self, others, and the environment through creative experiences. I believe art encourages people to connect visual knowledge to other aspects of life and to respond with innovation, understanding, flexibility and imagination. I’ve drawn from many life resources to create my pieces. I believe that an understanding of our world, an acceptance of different cultures, an exploration and mixture of visual culture and art history, and a recognition that differences are to be welcomed not rejected are essential in creating a focus on the importance and characteristics of my art.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First finding out what them would like to accomplish by taking lessons.. Then I'd do a quick exercise to see what level of talent they have, and we'd go from there by setting incremental goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
BFA from Memphis College of Art

How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching as and afterschool art program to a local elementary school. Over the years I've returned to teaching with a sense of duty to share my gifts with others that didn't have someone to nurture their talents.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with students as young as 4 years old and as old as 93.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look at their work to see if they have the kind of talent you want and ask for references of other students they've worked with.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How serious are you about learning this craft.
