Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start by learning about the student’s goals, experience level, and interests. From there, I create a personalized plan that focuses on building skills, confidence, and creativity. Lessons can be tailored for beginners, portfolio development, school projects, or personal artistic growth.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a certified high school art teacher with years of classroom teaching experience. I also took private art lessons throughout high school, which helped me develop my skills, build a strong portfolio, and gain admission to art school. My background includes drawing, painting, portfolio preparation, and art education.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Private lessons start at $60 per hour for one-on-one instruction. Longer sessions, small group lessons, and portfolio coaching are available upon request. Materials may be included depending on the lesson format.
How did you get started teaching?
Art has been a major part of my life since high school. The private lessons I received had a huge impact on my growth as an artist and ultimately helped me pursue art school. I became a teacher because I wanted to provide that same guidance and encouragement to other students.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students ranging from complete beginners to advanced high school artists. My experience includes teaching teenagers in public schools, helping students build portfolios for college applications, and working with adults who simply want to learn art for enjoyment and personal growth.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One of my favorite recent experiences was helping students complete portfolio pieces they were genuinely proud of. Seeing their confidence grow as they developed new skills and expressed their ideas through art is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher who can adapt lessons to your individual goals rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach. A good art teacher should help you develop both technical skills and creative confidence while making the learning process enjoyable.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Consider what you hope to achieve through lessons. Are you looking to improve fundamentals, prepare a portfolio, learn a specific medium, or simply enjoy making art? Having clear goals helps your teacher create lessons that are most beneficial for you.
