Author, Photographer, Teacher, Consultant
Brian Loflin is a photographic professional with a career that spans more than five decades in the advertising, aviation, bio-medical and publishing industry. As a graduate biologist with a background in marketing and communications, his early experience was as a medical photographer and a freelance photojournalist.
During his career, Brian's photographs have been published in many international magazines, books and other publications, and through major news agencies of the world. His work has won numerous industry awards, but most importantly, the respect of his clients.
Brian is passionate about documenting biological subjects that are often extremely tiny. To this end, he has studied and written extensively about wildlife and nature photography, extreme macro photography, remote photography, long exposure photography, lighting, and computer post-processing. Brian is a skilled and highly-respected instructor, whose passion is in passing his knowledge and vision along to others, creating growth in his students’ photography.
Brian Loflin shares his exceptional expertise in Photography, Lightroom and Photoshop in an organized, step by step, and easily understood format. He is always early to class and willing to answer questions before and after class. He also provides outstanding resource materials that help with many other issues related to photography, equipment, software, and photo editing. I have attended most of Brian's classes, and highly recommend them. If Brian is teaching, I know the class will be exceptional.
I have taken many, many photography classes over the last few years in Austin, on the internet and in other cities. Brian is the only instructor I have met who seems to enjoy teaching as much as he enjoys photography. His expertise is immediately obvious, but he is never boastful/showy. He takes pride in his students' accomplishments and celebrates their successes. His pride and happiness are obvious when his students evolve in their photography. I have found this to be a rare quality, as most instructors seem to feel challenged/competitive (even threatened) when their students do well. I attribute my own photography growth as largely related to his classes and instruction (I have taken every class he offers and some more than once). Don't pass up a chance to take a class from him
Having taken multiple classes from Brian Loflin, I can honestly say that the wealth of knowledge I have gained from his classes at UT Informal Classes reaches far beyond anything I had expected. The tips and tricks I have learned in the realm of photography have helped shape and guide me along missteps, making my photographic journey fun instead of frustrating. The value of the Informal Classes is unmatched in any type of class offered in Austin, so I would recommend it to anyone with a love of learning. Brian Loflin is a true professional and an amazing teacher, and I look forward to taking many more classes in the near future.
