Visual Arts, Art Parties & Songcraft With Jean
About
Having taught art for twenty years, I have a big bag of art teaching tricks. I am certified to teach art in Texas and taught for years in Austin ISD. I prefer to teach more generalized art lessons that cover a variety of projects and media as opposed to in depth drawing or painting. I am well suited to provide online art home school instruction. As a teaching artist I currently teach Art School at The Contemporary in Austin and facilitate art projects for seniors for the non profit, Mobile Art.
The song writing lessons are more like coaching. I will guide you through the writing lyrics for verses, chorus and bridge and help you come up with hooks. I am not teaching any basic music theory or recording techiques.
I have taught songwriting workshops at for Badgerdog at various Austin Public Libraries and I dida songwriting residency in Durham, N.C. I have decades of experience writing and performing my songs in bands and as a singer-songwriter.
I enjoy sparking artist of all ages in a variety of mediums. I particularly enjoy collage, printmaking, simple book arts and watercolors. Artmaking and songwriting are transformative experiences. You can come into a class grumpy and tired and almost always leave feeling uplifted.
In addition to lessons I can facilitate songwriting and art-making workshops in schools, libraries and as birthday party experiences.
I am based in Austin but I am often in California and occassionally tour through Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, New York, Texas and Canada and I am available for teaching artist gigs outside of Austin when I am on the road.
