I just recently started receiving requests from Lessons.com, but I've been teaching for about 50 years. I taught at colleges and universities for 25 years and at Booker T. Washington HS for Visual and Performing Arts for several years. Many of my students received 1s at UIL.

I love teaching all levels, including beginners. I will help you learn to play with a inner understanding of the principles of movement, anatomy, and biomechanics involved in playing the guitar. If your playing is easier, you can make your music more beautiful.

Chris is an excellent teacher who really emphasizes technique and mastering the basic foundations of classical guitar in order to be the best player that you can be. He is also just an outstanding human being, always giving me so much grace and encouragement whenever I do a great job following his instruction and end up playing a piece beautifully. Part of being his student is getting to learn from someone with lots of experience and wisdom playing guitar, but the other part is simply getting to know him as a person. Getting both is very special. I would highly recommend him to anyone!

Chris is an outstanding teacher for me. He has the right amount of discipline, encouragement, and empathy to propel me forward to meet my goals. I haven’t played for 20 years and have issues with arthritis. I hope to give my first performance after just a few months with Chris

Chris started teaching me to help me get into a art magnet high school. I stuck with him for another 3-4 years after I got into that school and he has helped me be the guitar player I am today. He is an excellent teacher that understands how each individual student likes to be taught, and I feel like that is more important with classical guitar than any other style of guitar playing. With that, he also becomes a friend. He’s a cool guy with a good sense of humor and he’s very easy to talk to. You won’t regret learning form this man if you decide to have him as a teacher. You can incorporate everything he teaches into every style of guitar playing.

Our 18-year-old son has been privileged in taking lessons from Chris McGuire for approximately five years now.
Chris is indeed an enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable instructor. He is a gifted professional, committed mentor, caring/thoughtful, patient, and a reliable resource in guitar.
Over the course of years with Chris, we have seen our son transform into a confident guitarist. Chris has truly made a huge impact in our lives. He went above and beyond, and guided our son in earning music scholarships from several universities. We are fortunate to have him in our lives, and incredibly grateful for everything he has done for our family. He is the cream of the crop of guitar instructors!
We are eternally grateful to you, Mr. McGuire!

    Frequently asked questions

At our first lesson I assess your level and try to get to know how you receive information. It's different for everyone and I try to personalize my approach to each student. We'll discuss your interests in music and any related hobbies and activities.

I've studied with several fo the best guitaists and teachers and have made a life's work of constantly studying how to make playing guitar easier in order to allow students to be more artistic. Please visit my website for more iformation.

My fee is $80 per hour. (see discount below) Students who pay monthly receive a free lesson in months with 5 lesoson days in a month.

Students who are inrolled in school receive a 25% discount if tuition is paid monthly

My first couple of students were friends of my dad's who heard me play when I was 15 yrs. old and asked for lessons. During my freshman year at Southern Methodist University I was recommended for a job at a local small university to teach as an adjunct (private lesson) instructor. At 20 yrs. I was hired to teach classical guitar at Northlake College of the Dallas County Community College District. I've been teaching for since 1971 and I'm still learning new things that help my students be better guitaists and more artistic musicians.

I mostly teach classical guitar, but I'm very interested in helping guitarist in all genres improve their playing.

I'm mostly fond of spending time wth my family. Musically, I love to hear the concerts presented by Cliburn Concerts.

Watch videos of the teacher to see if you like his or her playing. Do a phone interview. You don't need to interrogate the teacher, but you can get a very good idea of the his/her temperment in a short conversation. Be clear about what you wish to learn.

That really depends on what you want, but write some questions down so you don't forget to ask.
