About

I have been a working photographer more than 20 years and have been teaching photography and digital darkroom for the last 10 years. I have won awards for portraits, nature and wildlife, night, and macro photography. I also regularly shoot products and jewelry. My experience in so many genres will allow me to work with students to learn just about any camera technique they are looking to learn.

I have had many mentors that have helped me learn photography over the years. One of the biggest asks from many of them has been to pay it forward. Accordingly, I really enjoy working with people of all ages to help them understand how to get better photos from the cameras they are using.

    Frequently asked questions

I like to first learn what you want to learn. Then we'll talk about your knowledge of your camera and drill in to learn some of the features that will help you take better photos. Lastly we'll work on real shooting to hone skills like understanding light, composition, exposure, and white balance.

I have taken numerous workshops with noted photographers like Joe McNally, Moose Peterson, Don MacGregor, and Joel Grimes. Not only did I take away new photography skills but also how they teach. I have also been teaching several different age groups both photography and post processing techniques for the past 10 years.

I charge $25 per hour which equates to a typical lesson. We can do as many or few lessons as you desire.

I am an avid bird photographer and a friend coaxed me into teaching a bird photography workshop to a group of Audobon Society birders. I enjoyed it so much I started volunteering to teach photography at a local continuing education for seniors center and have expanded from there.

High school students with new cameras, new moms who just got the first "serious" camera to take better pictures of their kids, people headed off on the trip of a lifetime that wanted to make sure they captured the memories, and seniors that just wanted a new hobby in retirement.

I just attended Texas School, an education event sponsored by Texas Professional Photographers Association which was a terrific learning opportunity for me over the course of a whole week.

Find someone who has experience in the kind photography you are looking to learn or improve. Look at their work to see if it inspires you. Then talk to them to make sure their approach will fit your learning style.

Exactly what do you hope to learn. What style of photography do you like most. Does the instructor have skills and style that match what you are looking for.
