About

I focus on everyday language, nothing too fancy or complicated, but regular conversation, learning of vocabulary and its uses.

I need to see that it is working, if you are not learning I might need to change my approach and assess the reasons.

I enjoy seeing the moment when a student 'gets it', that moment when they understand and learning becomes easier and they are eager to learn more, but now they have the tools to continue almost on their own.

Frequently asked questions

First I need to evaluate the level of prior knowledge of my student and also the purpose of the student to sign up for these lessons (work, study, travel, general learning, etc) in order to prepare lessons that are appropriate to meet the student's needs.

I am a native speaker, I was born and raised in Puerto Rico. My BA in Natural Sciences with a  major in General Biology is from the University of Puerto Rico. Classes were mostly taught in Spanish, and some books were in English, as a result, I am fully bilingual. I also got a Bilingual Texas teacher certificate through the Alternative Certification Program from Lone Star College in Houston, TX.

I have plans to offer occasional group lessons, once I have more students, to have the chance to practice conversational skills. Since this is the first time that I am offering Spanish lessons online I don't have a system fully established yet, I will make changes as necessary on the go, but always respect what has been offered to a determined student.

During the time that I was a college student, I started tutoring my neighbor's children and noticed that it was something I liked and felt comfortable with.

I have worked with Special Education students from EC- 5th grade, also 2nd, 3rd, and 5th graders.

I had a small group of ESL adult students working on my own, we were meeting twice a week, before the pandemic.

I would recommend for a language lesson to always look for a teacher that has native language skills. But also, a teacher that has a good education or experience since every country that is Spanish speaking has differences in some vocabulary due to cultural differences. I will gladly share some of the ones I have learned.
