About
With my 34 years of experience I have trained 29 working photographers and dozens of individuals who wanted to learn photography. I have a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from Sam Houston State University. I can train on any aspects about photograhy; landscape, portriature, B&W, studio lighting and small flash for event and on location. Composition is critical for all types of photography. Critical exposure is strongly emphasized.
After my many years as a photographer, many young people have worked for me to learn our craft, art and the business side of this career. Besides being a photographer, I really do enjoy when people learn from me. I feel like I am contributing to the future of photography. When I see their excited faces when they begin to achieve the results they have wanted with truly wonderful images, it is a great feeling to bring joy to those who have learned from me.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
It all starts when a new student makes the initial contact and I can thoroughly understand what they want to learn. Then we come to an agreement as to how, when and where we will meet. I always start with coming first to the student, then we will meet at locations of interest to the student so that they can start taking photos right away. This could be a park, a botanical garden, downtown or in their home. Anywhere really. I will make assignments to the student for different aspects that will be important to the student. Included in the training could be photo editing as well as Adobe PhotoShop. This training is at a slightly higher charge. I can teach landscape, portrait, sport, macro photography or any other aspect of photography they are interested in.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a graduate of Sam Houston State University with a degree of Fine Arts in Photography. I have been a professional photographer since 1989. I have held a position as a newspaper photographer, the Department of Criminal Justice, a staff studio photographer and owned two different studios as Mario Carranza Photography in Houston and the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
