About

There are those whose do, those who teach and those who do & teach. Not all doers are teachers - or good teachers anyway. This journey is about you. Ensure you pick the best teacher and pick the best student/teacher fit. I teach those who have the inner drive to be real guitarist and musicians. If that is you, it will be a good student/teacher fit and my job will be to help you make the most of your journey.

Jeff is a phenomenal teacher. His technique is amazing and goes from the basics which will help you become a great guitarist and not just a guitar player who can play a couple of songs. I love the materials and the theory that he teaches. I highly recommend to work with Jeff.

What I was looking for , I have found in my instructor Jeff Shepherd. An actual course with structured lessons is the most comprehensive learning. His astuteness for details is what makes you strive. Why be a 5 or 6 when you’re goal is “11”

I like how Jeff sends us a bunch of materials hes created himself to help us with technique and theory, as well as emailing updates to all his current students together, making it feel like a little community (which I didnt expect, and I was pleasantly surprised). He caters the lessons to your goals as Im trying to learn more advanced theory for songwriting. Even though most lessons are through zoom, he can see each little nuance of my guitar technique, and he does a great job explaining how to correct it in a way where I can really visualize and implement the changes. He doesnt chastise you for not practicing when life gets busy, especially as Im a full-time working adult trying to learn in my limited free-time. Lastly, I really appreciate how he sees and acknowledges my progress, especially when its hard to see it myself!

From the start Jeff has been great. The study material and his teaching technique show passion about his craft and desire to teach. I highly recommend especially for those older students that want to learn but are hesitant for any number of reasons. Jeff will help you feel comfortable and eager to move forward.

Frequently asked questions

Very structured based on the student's goals.  Each student usually work on 4 of the main tenents of music at a time for overall growth and variety.  Which 4 those are depend on the student, where they are and where they want to go.

I have studied with Andy Woods, Rody Elias - retired university jazz instructor in Canada, Matt Warnock and Bruce Arnold who is the head of the NYU and Princeton guitar departments.

I studied music at the Univeristy of Central Oklahoma and enjoy watching students as the "light goes off" when they grasp another musical concept or when the element they were working on comes together.

$50 for a full hour and full time access to me via email and texts to get your questions answered between lessons.

I enjoy playing but enjoy helping others more.  So I helped people I knew and their feedback was that they had never learned so much in an way that made sense and was easy to grasp.   So I branched out and started helping others.

13 year olds to senior citizens.  I only take Jr. High and High School students who are motivated and committed to learning music.  I teach music and "just happen" to use the guitar to facilitate that learning transfer.   In the process, the student becomes a good guitarist but also a real musician.

Almost all events are the same: a person tries to learn via youtube videos or a book or someone they know that plays guitar they don't make much progress for all the time they put in.   They come to me and immediately start to make progress on the first lesson.  I am proud I do that for them.

The best thing I can tell you is that if you only want to dabble with music, I am probably not your guy.  If you really want to improve your quality of life through music, then I am  willing to spend my time helping you.

Be very clear about what your desired outcomes are when enterviewing a potention instructor.  Don't let them push in a diretion you don't want to go.  Pay attention to your emtions and physical feelings when you are interviewing them and take note of any red flags which make you unsure or uncomfortable.
