About

I was first introduced to archery by my grandfather when I was about 10. We shot at his ranch when I went to visit. I picked it up again in'92 when I bought my first longbow.

Today I mostly shoot for the recreation and meditation of the sport. I am fascinated with all the different cultures and traditions that archery has developed through. I enjoy researching and shooting in everything from English longbow to kyudo (Japanese longbow), from the Plains Indian horse bow to the Turkish recurve.though traditional archery is my passion I also shoot and teach modern competition styles. I am certified as a USA archery level 2 instructor and a NASP BAI range master.

Archery is a great equalizer no matter what your age, gender or physical level is you can take up archery and shoot side by side with anyone else. Your biggest competition is with yourself. Skill comes from dedication and practice.

Archery not only is a great physical and meditative practice, it is a metaphor for life. We all go through life trying to hit the mark. And we all miss from time to time. You don't quit, you keep shooting. The more you try the more often you will hit your target.

Very knowledgeable and patient with our beginner. Went over and explained Archery thoroughly and helped our daughter not only with guidance but also a game plan to get her to her goals. Very satisfied and price is great. I would highly recommend DeRanged Archery.

    Frequently asked questions

We can arrange a time to meet at a local range. I can provide some basic equipment.  Fees quoted would be for a one time beginners lesson for 1 -1 1/2 hours. We can talk about continuinglessons when we meet up and what the rates would be for multiple classes. I also could do class rates for multiple people during the same instructional hour.. Text messages are the best way to reach out.

I also offer some demonstration and learning classes which cover different types of equipment. These could be arranged at places other than a range and sometimes indoor.

i was teaching a group of 2nd And 3rd graders and asked what kind of bow I was holding (a compound bow). One little girls raises her hand and says “a training bow, because it has training wheels”

Look for someone who isn’t just an archer but has experience teaching archery. It’s a different skill.
