Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I do an assessment for any new student to gauge their level, learning style, and personality. This allows me to place them in the proper class/curriculum, and to tailor my classes to meet their individual needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been working with children for over 20 years. I am a licensed and ordained Minister of Music. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from the University of Southern California. My background and training includes many styles including musical theatre, classical, jazz, country, gospel, and more.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages starting from infancy thru adult.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
More important than a teacher's talent is their attitude. A good teacher is friendly, loves children, is very patient, and can communicate clearly. A teacher with these attributes will impart positivity and success to you and your child.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What is your goal... what do you want to take away from your lessons?
What teachers have you had (if any) and what did you like/dislike about their teaching? What did you gain from them?
What do you want to focus on in your lessons?
What is your biggest challenge technically when practicing?
What is your biggest challenge when performing?
