Texas Defense & Firearm Training provides various defense training with the idea that we can live another day if we are situationally aware and understand our surroundings. If we can stay out of harms way, that is the best defense. However, there will be times you have no choice but to fight for your defense. We will prepare you for the entire defensive situation, from how you will act mentally and physically, what tools are available and the best tools for the situation (non-lethal and deadly force). We will work with your natural reactions to a trauma situation to use your tools effectively. Then we will process the defensive situation after the event happens and the police arrive on scene.
We want you to use the force necessary to get home safely. We instruct basic to advanced, includes safety, legality of owning a handgun, defensive shooting, drawing from holster, reloading under stress, Situational Awareness, Human Trafficking Awareness, cover and concealment, home defense and concealed carry training. We also focus on women only handgun and self-defense fundamentals. Women learn differently then men and need their own courses to be efficient.

I really enjoy seeing people gain the knowledge and confidence to protect themselves and their families. To provide students the power to defend themselves is my ultimate goal. It is not about me, but you the students.
I enjoy teaching and providing all the resources for you to be competent and have the knowledge to make the right decisions at the right times. I take my work seriously, as your defense and the tools you use can and will be a result of serious bodily harm or death. Can also result in you going through lengthy court and possible jail time. The cost to defend yourself can be extensive, so I want to help with thatissue as well. Knowledge is power!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We will evaluate your experience and knowledge so we can pick up where you need to start. Our classes are from beginner to advanced. We can provide you handguns, rifles and shotguns to learn from at no cost, just purchase the ammo you use.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
8 years Navy range safety officer and firearms instructor experience. Taught combat tactics and qualified over 600 military members in the use of hand guns, rifles and other weapons. Nuclear weapons security guard trainer with close combat quarters training. Certified USCCA Instructor and Training Counselor, teach courses in first aid, handgun 101, defensive shooting, AR tactical shooting, and long range rifle shooting. Also teach classes in home defense, concealed carry, situational awareness, and certified as a Texas LTC Certifed Instructor, and now a USCCA Training Coordinator - interested in being a firearms instructor, let me know!
How did you get started teaching?
I was selected by the Navy command to be their Range Safety Officer and master instructor for nuclear weapons security guards and forces. My background in technical instructions, my knowledge in firearms, and security operations was the reason for the selection. With my experience and knowledge, I could positively assist the community to be safe and knowledgable in their own home defense.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with very beginners to advanced. I have trained men and women. Both requiring different training techniques because men and women see home and personal defense differently.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I had a student that had a horrific situation with someone shooting at her in a parking lot. Being very intimidated by this, asked me to help work through the situation and get confidence back. We had several lessons. After 2 months, the student purchase their first handgun and started on the journey of self defense.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Hire a person who does not push you to do it their way. There is a safe way, but you have to be able to use a firearm that is comfortable to you.
