About

I believe that each student will be successful when they enjoy learning and have something concrete to show for it. It is my privilege to work with flutists to achieve their goals in an encouraging, fun, hard-working environment.

I teach using a classical approach as a basis for all other musical styles. In lessons we will cover proper posture and position, embouchure development, finger mobility training, ear training, as well as music theory and history. I use a variety of method books geared toward the students learning style and cover classical flute repertoire.

I love it when students conquer a new skill or play a piece with beautiful tone and intonation. I love hearing their success stories from their performance groups.

Over the last 20 years, I have worked with students of different ages and abilities. I enjoy working together to create and achieve their goals. Many of my former students enjoy flute so much they continued studying flute in college, earning scholarships at their respective universities.

    Frequently asked questions

Before the first lesson, I find out what experience the student has and what their big goals are. At the first lesson, we clarify the skill level and set smaller goals. Students leave the very first lesson with new skills and a plan for the weeks' practice! At each lesson, students will strengthen their musical foundation, show their repetition work (practicing), and set new goals for the week.

I earned by Bachelor's in Music Education, specializing in flute, and my teaching credential from California State University Long Beach. I have been trained in teaching students of all abilities and am able to make accommodations for students when needed.

I started my flute studio in college and have continued to teach for 25 years. My students work hard and have consistently placed in honor groups and leadership chair positions, participated in masterclasses and have been offered scholarships for furthering their flute studies.

    Individual lessons prices:

I started helping the younger musicians in high school. In college, many of the music majors taught lessons. I started my studio and knew I'd found my passion.

I have worked with students of all ages and abilities, beginners through collegiate level playing.

My desire is for each student to identify where they are and help them move forward.

I love watching a students expression when they've just played something they thought was impossible. Careful practicing and encouragment go a long way!
