About
I taught English as Second Language at Houston Community College and Rice University for many years. Now I work one on one, my favorite way of teaching! My students and I work together on the skills they feel are most important to improve quickly: vocabulary, pronunciation, listening, grammar, writing, conversational language or test preparation. Their priorities are my priorities, and we work as a team.
The most enjoyable aspect of my work is my students! They are wonderful people who come from interesting backgrounds. I love the creative aspect of my work: crafting lessons to address the specific language needs of each person. And finally, the positive feedback and appreciation that I get from them is what keeps me at it.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Before I meet with a student, I ask the student to prioritize the areas that they feel they need to work on most and least: vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, listening comprehension, etc. The first time I meet with the student, I assess their competency in the various skill areas. Then, I create an individual curriculum, finding and creating materials to strengthen the various aspects of that student's English according to their own priorities. It works well!
