About this pro

I have spent several years in the firearms industry and am able to teach students the basics of firearms safety, manipulation, function, and shooting techniques. I can also coach shooting techniques and defensive tactics.

I am great with first time shooters and people new to the hobby. I can teach the basics of handgun, rifle, and shotgun shooting at your own pace and comfort levels.

What I liked about Topher teaching me about guns is that he is very confident and knowledgeable explaining me about different guns and their uses. Any questions I may have about the use of any gun, Topher will have a an answer for me in no time.

He was very observant and patient. He spotted my bad habits really quickly and addressed them professionally

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I start with assessing the students knowledge level prior to the lesson. Depending in student's level of familiarity with the platform I will custom tailor the lesson based on the student's desired outcome. Every lesson is completely customized to the student's needs.

I acknowledge that firearms are a bit of a hot topic in today's world and I specifically refrain from any and all politics in my lessons.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

NRA certified instructor

5 years in the firearms industry

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

$150 flat fee for range shooting and practical lessons. Fees increase if distance to nearest range to student is greater than 50mi.

$75 flat fee for firearms maintenance and basic operation (no practical use /shooting involved)

$300 for defensive tactics / defensive handgun or rifle

$50 firearm recommendations for new shooters looking for their first firearm based on needs

*in practical lessons student will pay for their own ammunition/firearm. If they wish to use my firearms/ammunition additional charges will apply.

How did you get started teaching?

I have been involved in the firearms industry since youth, and shoot competition as a hobby. I have had numerous friends ask me to teach them about firearms and to take them shooting for the first time. Everyone has said that I should take my hobby into a more professional arena.

What types of students have you worked with?

Everyone from new shooters, entry level with some experience, never held a gun before, people in the firearms industry and want to know more about certain platforms, and all in between.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Make sure you are willing to commit to the lesson.  Many of my students are new to firearms, and some apprehension is normal. My advice is to be open minded and if you have questions do not hesitate to ask.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Wanting to know more about a topic is admirable. My advice: think carefully about what you wish to accomplish in the lesson. Are you trying to become a more accurate shooter? Are you wanting to train yourself in defensive tactics? Are you wanting to get more comfortable with a firearm? These are things you must ask yourself prior to class and inform me of what you wish to focus on so that I may better tailor the lesson to your specific needs.
