Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start at wherever the student is now. If they’ve never painted before, we start with the basics- basic brushstrokes, color mixing, different painting techniques.
If the student has some experience, I first try to determine what they’d like to get out of their lessons and we go from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a four-year degree in studio arts from Mount Mary University.
I’ve been teaching painting classes in a studio setting for 15 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$50 per hour for individual sessions.
Painters furnish their own supplies.
$45 per person (minimum 8) for 2 hour group classes. I furnish all supplies.
How did you get started teaching?
I got a job as a painting instructor 15 years ago and discovered that I love teaching people how to paint.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages, from 5 year olds to some super senior citizens!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Teaching 200 female Texans fans to paint a custom painting that I designed. We set up on the field of their practice facility. It was so much fun!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher you feel comfortable with. Art should be fun!
