Learn And Fun Learning Spanish
About
My name is Dora Guerra Torres and I have been teaching for 13 years different levels from Kindergarten, Pre-K,
Middle School to High School. My mother tongue is Spanish, and I learned English in school. I have a bachelor’s
degree in arts and awaiting the final paper for a master’s in education from IBERO Leon (Universidad
Iberoamericana León). I am a bilingual teacher and I arrived in Houston, Texas almost 8 years ago in September
2014.
Since I started teaching, I have been learning a lot from my coworkers, and students. During this time, I have been
coached and did coach with other colleagues. Working as a team and follow the same goals are very important for
me every day. We as teachers are building minds, educate children for their future, but also learn how to be more
patient, open our minds and souls to different characters and cultures. I started as an assistant of the third-year
class and as a floater in the International School Crossing Borders located in Rice village. After a few months in
summer of the year 2015 I oversaw the group of 4- and 5-years old children. I was working with foreign children,
coming from different schools in Houston, who were excited to learn Spanish in a different way.
The following summer I was the lead Spanish teacher for the same school. For two more years, I was teaching
Spanish, based in the curriculum of Frog Street. After this, I decide to move on to learn more and became a
substitute teacher in the private company Zenith Learning. This company is working with some of the public schools
around Houston. This helped me to explore and learn more from other teachers about the education in the USA.
