Tetsuya is a fantastic trumpet teacher and performer, and I highly recommend him as a trumpet teacher. Having trained at the prestigious Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, Tetsuya is extremely skilled at playing trumpet with crystal-clear tone and impeccable intonation to where everything he plays sounds perfect.
He teaches an uncommon, efficient way of playing trumpet that ultimately enhances tone quality and endurance so that you can play for a long time without fatiguing facial muscles. As this method is complex, he teaches it in such a way that it is easy to understand. This is especially important for beginner students like me with no prior trumpet experience.
I appreciate how his open-minded and patient demeanor creates a safe space for students to feel comfortable asking questions and getting feedback on trumpet playing. In this learning environment, Tetsuya is kind and gives constructive feedback on tweaks to make the trumpet sound better including embouchure, posture, breath support, etc. His thorough suggestions expedite progress, and my trumpet sound has significantly improved from when I started private lessons from him!

Tetsuya doesnt spend hours on end teaching fundamentals or music but teaches many techniques for one to develop a better sense of playing the instrument. He is one of the best teachers I have had in my six years of playing the trumpet. I dont remember a time when I got better at learning the instrument in just one hour.
