About
Akira Okamoto graduated with a bachler's degree in Trumpet Performance in 2019. Akira is a bugler with the United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps located in Washington D.C. One of four premier bands in the Army. Akira has experiences teaching private lessons for Azle, Carrolton, Irving and Stephenville Texas. Mr. Okamoto was a staff member as Phantom Regiment and Guardians Drum and Bugle Corps as a Trumpet Instructor.
As a performer, Akira was named Honorable Mention at the Music Teachers National Association’s state solo competition in 2015. Selected for the final round of the honorable “Center Stage” competition for four years in a row, Akira has won twice (2015 and 2018) and was also the co-winner of the Tarleton Bands’ Concerto Competition in 2018.
Akira has served as principal trumpet in the Tarleton Wind Ensemble and assistant lead trumpet for Jazz Ensemble I. He has also been a member of the Tarleton Trumpet Ensemble, national semifinalists in the National Trumpet Competition for three consecutive years.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First thing I like to do is evaluate the student with simple exercises. Listening to tone production, range, flexibility, finger dexterity, mouthpiece setup.
I then explain what I have evaluated and come up with a solution to make the student better- printing out specific exercises or etudes.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have my bachelors in Trumpet Performance from Tarleton State University. I am a full time private lessons teacher at Azle, Carrolton, and Irving ISD. I am a trumpet instructor for Phantom Regiment and Guardians Drum and Bugle Corps
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
If student comes to me- $30 for 30 minutes. $60 for 60 minutes.
If student needs me to travel- $50 for 30 minutes. $80 for 60 minutes
How did you get started teaching?
Started back in 2015 while attending college, I took up a part time job with Stephenville ISD.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from 6th grade all the way up to 12th. Even students who has special needs.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Having a private lesson teacher can imrove your playing ability tremendously. As a private instructor, I am able to identify very small issues that can be fixed for student success.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Speak what you are thinking. It is important for the students to communcate with a teacher so that they are both in the right mind set. If you are unclear or have questions, ask immediately.
