What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Motivate and encourage. Learn the student's music goals.
Give them material to work on before the next lesson. Questions are encouraged.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Classically trained on Piano age 6 to 11.
Started playing guitar at age 5.

How did you get started teaching?
When I was young many of my friends wanted me to teach them how to play guitar. I developed quite a system to get them up to speed as soon as possible. Eventually people started to offer me money to teach them.
I taught at a music store here in town from 1993 to 2002. I was the only music teacher there and taught guitar and bass 6 days a week 8 hours a day. During this period I answered every question about playing guitar you could imagine.
Many of my students went on to have very successful careers and made appearances on The Tonight Show, David Letterman, Oprah, and I see on local TV here in Dallas on a regular basis. Some of my past students play the best rooms in town. Granada, Majestic, Gas Monkey...
Teaching is very important to me. I hope to pass on the information of my lifetime to the next generation of guitar heros. So many benifits to playing guitar.

Ages 6 to 86.
Most are 50+ years young.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently performed at Reunion Tower in Dallas as a soloist. First class gig and a lot of fun.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Practice is mandantory. It is obvious who practices and who does not.
Questions are also helpful.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What is their music goal? Play in church? Play in a band? Be a star? Jam with the family?
