About

I teach Suzuki bass lessons with the Austin Suzuki Music School, the only Suzuki String program in Central Texas that offers a suzuki bass program for young children to learn the bass. While it is very common for violinists, violists, and cellists to find private music programs that start students at an elementary and pre-elementary age, in the world of bass most kids do not have an opportunity to learn bass until they get to Middle School or High School.

In suzuki bass lessons, I specialize in starting elementary age kids on the bass and helping them advance faster then most public school programs can support. I believe that anyone can learn the bass, regardless of size and gender. The bass is often seen as a large isntrument, therefore being too hard for younger kids to play. Fortuantely, most string shops in Austin rent and sell fractional size basses, making it easy for any student to find a bass that is comfortable.

In addition to being a certified Suzuki Bass teacher, I bring over 15 years of professional teaching experience, and over 15 years of professional performance experience in classical, jazz, pop, and world music styles.

Austin Suzuki Music School is a community music school founded to provide quality music instruction to all students following the philosophy, principles, and pedagogy of Japanese violin teacher, Shin’ichi Suzuki. We strive to function as an anti-racist, inclusive organization, both as a community of people and as an organization, through our practices inside and outside of the studio. We believe that the purpose of Suzuki music lessons extend beyond teaching a child solely musical skills, but to use music as a medium to foster development of the whole child. The ASMS faculty is committed to lifelong learning, regularly engaging in continuing education to provide the best instructional practices to students. All teachers have professional degrees in Music Performance or Music Education as well as extensive professional training in the Suzuki Method.
