Low Brass Trombone Lessons
About
Let me help you learn to play trombone (or any low brass instrument)! I can also assist tutoring all levels of music theory. I am a talented and experienced musician with over 20 years of private and classroom teaching experience. I have performance experience in just about anything that needs trombone - orchestral, opera, jazz, studio, chamber, brass band, you name it. My primary service is for bass trombone, but I can certainly help any low brass instruction. Feel free to contact me with any questions!
I have a strong interest in helping students develop their skills and passion towards making or understanding music. As I was mentored and encouraged as a young musician, so now I return that favor to anyone willing to learn. My motivation is helping everyone learn to enjoy music as a deeply enriching part of their life.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
After you contact me through lessons.com or by my email/text/phone, we settle on a scheduled time and begin meeting as soon as you are ready. The first lessons are primarily for you to understand how lessons work with me and my style of teaching but also for me to learn about you and to discover the goals and expectations you have for yourself. After that, we continue with a consistent weekly schedule to maintain your goals and progress.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have BA and MM degrees in music education that also included intense instruction on my primary instrument, bass trombone. I have taught in public schools as a band director and an orchestra director for the past 19 years in both California and Texas. I began teaching private trombone lessons during my college years and have continued off and on as my teaching schedule allows me. My current studio has been continuous since 2016. I have performed in a wide variety of ensembles and styles that have included the Fresno Grand Opera and the Austin Civic Orchestra as well as playing in the backup band for Rosemary Clooney and Marvin Hamlisch. I was a member of the Disneyland All-American College Band and I have studied with Bill Reichenbach and Jeff Reynolds.

How did you get started teaching?
My teaching experience started out of work experience. I was hired to work at a summer music camp early on in my college years as a counselor, not an instructor. As such, I worked long hours with many children that summer but I also got to help teach many of them along with the instructors. It was the first time I had done that and I greatly enjoyed the experience. So much that I changed my college major to music education and never regretted or looked back!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked the most with school-age students. This includes 4th to 12th graders. I have also worked with some college age or adults. There is never a wrong age to learn or play music!
