Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I first assess them to see where they are. That way we don't waste time in reviewing what the student is already proficient in.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have studied at Austin School of Photography through the entire program as well as ACC in art and design. I have been a professional photographer since 2013 and have been an ameture for years prior to that. I have been published in Fire and Ice and also in Notindoor Magazine.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes, I have two ways of working with a student. Depending on how much instruction they wish to have. I have a program that runs $399 for a full 6 weeks of instruction out in the field, one on one. This is for a full hour once a week.
Or we can do individual one on one at $50 per hour with a two hour minimum. As it takes time to assess a student and where they are at to know where we should start.
How did you get started teaching?
I helped a few ametures with questions they had and realized I enjoyed teaching, I then started doing workshops at Round Rock Arts for children and wanted to expand to help anyone that really wanted to learn.
What types of students have you worked with?
From children to ameture photographers.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My Round Rock Arts childrens class was my most fond moment. I really enjoyed watching their minds open up and seeing there creativity blossom.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure you find someone who is actually working in the field and that has lots of experience. Being in the field is very different then teaching from a book. Classrooms are great and teach fundamentals but don't really always help someone understand what they are seeing.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Do I have a DSLR and lenses? Can I at least operate my camera by understanding where things are found. Instructors can't know every camera. So you need to understand your operating system at least where to find manual mode, f stop and shutter.
