Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We start with a FREE session.
Its like going to the tool store and talking to the employee; asking questions, getting recommendations. -that's free.
Its a planning session to determine where you are now and what tools will help you reach your goals -sometimes that includes me, but I also recommend other teachers -we are all just tools in a tool store, you just don't know which tool to choose yet -that is what this free session is all about.
Start with a free Zoom call to talk about your goals and plan a path to get them. https://calendly.com/photoschool/30-minute-appointment
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been teaching photography since 1997, six years after I earned a Bachelor of Science in Photography. Over 4000 students have taken my classes (group and private options available)
Teaching photography is what I do full time.

How did you get started teaching?
I began a full-time career as a photographer with a four-year degree in Photography. About six years into it, a kind person who wanted to learn more about photography asked me to teach her -she had to talk me into it because I felt like there were others who were much better than me! But after convincing me that I was good enough and more than qualified, I wrote my first photography class in 1997.
What types of students have you worked with?
Beginners all the way to those who were a whole lot better than me!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Photography teachers ROCK, they are passionate, they love to help, they truly care about you, but they do not know everything. We are like doctors, in that we also specialize and become masters in just a few areas. The hard part for a student, is they often cannot tell the difference and do not know what questions to ask.
Ask for a free session with the teacher to see if what they teach AND their personality is ideal for you.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do you like (or want) to photograph?
What would you like to accomplish and when would you like to accomplish it by?
