Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I assess the student's experience and skill level first then begin to build on that. Start with the fundamentals for beginners then in a step by step manner advance their skills.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a former healthcare excutive with a lifelong passion for art. I am a self taught full time professional artist.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing could be worked out on an hourly basis or for a one/two day workshop.
How did you get started teaching?
As a healthcare executive and a leader, I've had many opportunities to teach various subjects including clinical nursing skill, computer skill, leadership and management topics. Recently I have had the pleasure of sharing my passion for art by teaching workshops. I have taught adult workshops, also taught art classes at a homeless shelter for teenagers.
What types of students have you worked with?
Most of my art students have been beginner oil painters. Some have never painted before, some are familiar with water media and are interested in switching oil paintings.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am particularly fond of a recent workshops for beginning oil painting. Students learned a lot, as well enjoyed the process. It was a lot of fun!
I have also enjoyed teaching individual private lessons which allow me to focus simply on one individual and their specific needs.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would ask them to look for someone who can relate to the student, someone who is sharing their experiences and lessons they have learned. Someone with good interpersonal skills.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should ask about materials needed, how the class is conducted/presented (in person, on line, etc.). What topics are covered, perhaps a sample agenda.
