Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first concept we talk about are notes of the piano keyboard. Once that has been reviewed a few times, we start learning actual music. Students will progress through a series of notes on a weekly note naming sheet, where they will play and say the notes in the page. This has been priven the fastest method to learning how to read music.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I attended Weber State University between 2004 and 2008, where I studied Organ Performance.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Typical private lessons are $20 per 40 minute lesson or $80/month.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching piano in 2005, while a student at Weber State. It really just fell into my lap, I saw an ad for a piano teacher, called, set up an audition, and the rest was history.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with a wide variety of students, ranging from age 5-90. No two student learns the same way, for that reason I have learned different types of methods to teach new concepts. There are those who say they can't learn the piano, but I've taught many different types of students the art of piano.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently, I had the opportunity to play in an organ concert at the Tabernacle in Salt Lake City. It was an amazing experience!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Don't expect to play fluently just in a day or a month. As any form of art takes time and practice. Keep your goals high and your expectations reasonable.
