Kaitlin is such a great teacher! She’s patient, fun, and incredibly talented. I’ve been taking lessons with her for a few years, and it’s been amazing to see the progress I’ve made. I also really appreciate the effort she puts into masterclasses and group classes. It’s helped me feel more well-rounded as a musician and connect with other cellists in the area!

Kaitlin is such a patient and kind teacher, and for an adult learning their first instrument, those things are crucial. She kept things fun while helping me excel quickly. She went above and beyond to taper the lessons to best fit my skill level and goals. Kaitlin’s fun an engaging personality makes it easy for her to teach all age levels.

Kaitlin is an outstanding cello teacher!! Although we have been limited to Zoom lessons this year, my daughter’s progress on the cello has been astounding. Kaitlin Is cheerful, patient, and encouraging and works with my daughter to set manageable goals to help her process each week. She recognizes and builds on her strengths and keeps her progressing along the leading edge of her abilities without overwhelming her. I’m so grateful we found her!

    Frequently asked questions

When starting with a new student, I'll always ask what type of goals the student is working towards:

Do you want to be a classical cellist?

Do you want to be able to play hymns in church?

Do you want to learn how to improvise?

Are you just looking to learn a new instrument for fun?

Depending on the students' age, experience level, and personal goals I will create a custom curriculum suited to their individual needs as a player!

    - Master of Music Degree in Cello Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Utah, where I studied with Pegsoon Whang and John Eckstein.

    - Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance from Utah Valley University, where I studied cello under the direction of Cheung Chau and Walter Haman.

    My prices are as follows:

    $150/month for 4 private, 30-minute lessons

    $200/month for 4 private, 45-minute lessons

    $250/month for 4 private, 60-minute lessons

When I was in high school, teaching seemed like the easiest and most fun job since I could make money doing what I loved to do! Since then, I have always taught lessons and loved teaching. It's my lifelong goal to give back to the music community after having been so richly blessed myself. I am truly passionate about the healing power of music and the confidence that playing an instrument can bring!

Students of all ages! The youngest students I have worked with were 6 years old, and the oldest student I ever taught was 85. I have also worked with lots of teenagers and adults. No matter what your age is, no one is too young or too old to start. You are more than welcome in my studio!

One recent experience I’m proud of was traveling to Bulgaria to perform as a soloist with a professional orchestra, the Sinfonietta Vidin in 2024! I played Schumann’s Cello Concerto in A minor, which is an incredibly expressive and technically demanding work that felt very rewarding to perform for international audiences. Beyond Bulgaria, I've worked on recitals & performed solo repertoire, including most of the great concertos by composers like Elgar, Lalo, Saint-Saëns, Dvořák, and Haydn, as well as Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations. I was also proud to win Utah Valley University’s Concerto Competition in 2021, which led to a featured solo performance of the Saint-Saëns Concerto No. 1 in A minor with the UVU Symphony Orchestra. More recently, I had the chance to perform the West Coast premiere of Charles Mingus’ "Half-Mast Inhibition" with the University of Utah Wind Symphony. In addition to performing, I remain active in the Utah cello community by serving as a judge for the Utah Cello Federation’s annual student competition. It’s deeply fulfilling to help support and encourage the next generation of cellists here in Utah.

Make sure you have a trial lesson with them first! You and your teacher should get along well, be clear about your goals, and feel comfortable with each other. Having a good, competent, and well-rounded cello teacher is important and it means a lot in terms of how well you will progress. Don't be afraid to be picky!

You may want to ask yourself the following questions:

    - Why do I want to learn the cello? What are my short and long-term goals?

    - Am I willing to put in the necessary time to reach my goals? (Am I willing to practice cello several days a week in order to make consistent progress?)
