Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We give an in-depth verbal and written assessment in order to help a student increase math skills. We believe it's important to help them with homework now, but if a student doesn't want to always need help and desires to be confident in math, then they need to work the Mathnasium system. It gets to the root cause of the problem so they won't require a tutor on a regular basis in the future!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I achieved a BS in Mathematics from BYU and then taught math and other subjects at US Naval Nuclear Power School. I am also qualified to use the Mathnasium system, which is the most important of my qualifications.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing depends on student needs, but the hourly cost typically ends up being below what a good tutor would cost.
How did you get started teaching?
I discovered the Mathnasium system and since it teaches students to think in a similar way to how I thought mathematically, I knew it would work to help others be confident and competent at math, and I was correct, this system really does work.
What types of students have you worked with?
All grade and skill levels from 1st grade to adult age.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Every day I get positive feedback from parents and students. If students work this program, then the program works for them. It's that simple.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Nothing is better for the money than the Mathnasium system. As good as I am as a tutor, I could not replicate this system on my own and be anywhere near as effective without it.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
They need to understand how well a system works against just a teacher on their own. It is more important that the student increase their skills and be prepared than that they have a great teacher. I believe in my skills against most teachers, but having the Mathnasium system to use enhances that beyond any one person's teaching abilities. It's not just about having a good teacher, but having a good student, and this system creates great students.
