Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Reach out to me and let's set up a trial lesson!
The first lesson is always free to make sure that you feel comfortable with the location and my teaching style.
From there we'll set up a schedule (weekly, bi-weekly) and set some goals for improvement and make plans to achieve them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
B.A. Spanish, Minors in Music and Business Administration; Brigham Young University, 2020 (Course work included adolescent pedagogy and development)
Studied Trumpet under Dr. Seretta Hart and David Brown for 4 years.
Studied Jazz Piano and Trumpet with Jacob Jones for 2 years.
Member of the International Trumpet Guild and Utah Trumpet Guild.
Brass Staff for Skyridge HS Marching Band 2021-Present
Brass Caption Head for Salem Hills HS Marching band 2019-2020
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$20/30-min lessons
$35/60-min lessons
I find that 60-minute lessons really allow us to dig into the weeds of issues and encourage all serious students to consider the longer lesson time.
How did you get started teaching?
I began offering private lessons in High School and taught a couple of beginner trumpeters and found that teaching music was the absolute best way that I could improve my own playing. I've taught trumpet and piano on and off throughout my college career and, now that I've graduated, I'm looking to help others discover the love for music that I have.
What types of students have you worked with?
Beginner to Freshman College trumpet players; (if you're playing in college, you probably have access to tenured Trumpet staff that you should take advantage of).
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
All students should seriously consider how much time they are willing to commit to a DAILY PRACTICE ROUTINE. I cannot stress enough the importance of a daily routine for all brass players.
The formation of the embouchure requires the use of muscles that, like all other muscles, require consistent, focused exercise to grow.
Make the commitment to practice *at minimum* 20 minutes a day before committing to a private instructor. For context, my personal daily warm-up routine alone takes about 45 minutes.
