As the founder of the premier dance school in North Arlington, VA Adagio Ballet School of Dance I have created, implemented, and trained both dance students and instructors in my unique dance programs that not only teache excellent technique in the Russian ballet style but give students unforgettable experience to make them dance fans for life.

Seeing the creativity, excitement, and success of all my students whether they have professional dance aspirations or simply want to expand their horizons by adding grace, elegance and style to their movement awareness.

    Svetlana has helped me reconnect with ballet and forge a much more positive connection with dance for my daughter. I wanted to help my daughter have a more confident experience with ballet and dance after a sad experience when she was little. Svetlana shared her expertise and creativity with great support and generosity. She addressed my interests for my daughter plus my personal goals in dance. As it happened she was also able to also include my son in some of our lessons and he enjoyed making the connection with dance as well. Svetlana always finds several creative ways to work the challenge. Dancing with her is a pleasure. She is a real pro and so talented.     Svetlana gave clear, advance instructions both verbally and through demonstrations each step of the way. Her gentle demeanor was encouraging yet she pushed us to go further than we ourselves thought we could go. I highly recommend Svetlana as a teacher for any age.

    My daughter has taken classes with Ms. Svetlana for several years. Ms. Svetlana is not only an inspiring ballerina, but most importantly has an amazing approach towards kids. She understands their world and relates to them in a very creative way. You can tell that teaching is her passion. She creates an environment where the kids feel encouraged to express themselves through dance, build confidence and improve their stage presence. I have also taken Barre classes with her and I felt great challenging myself with a different type of an exercise, which awoke muscles in my body I didnt know I had:) Ms. Svetlana has been very flexible during Covid times. Outdoors classes and private lessons are well worth it.

    Svetlana is a terrific instructor!! I have enjoyed her adult barre class and was able to follow her instructions easily although I had no prior experience. In addition, I have seen Svetlana work with kids as little as 3-4 years old. Her love for the kids, patience and ability to grab their attention is mesmerizing to watch. She is a true professional who is able to work with any person at any age, beginner or experienced and I highly recommend her!

    I am honored to write on behalf of Ms. Svetlana Nikoloff, founder and co-owner of Adagio Ballet School of Dance. Svetlana has been a great teacher and mentor for me both as a child and as a young woman finding my place in the world. Her experience of coming to the United States when she was very young and establishing herself in a new place with a foreign language and culture all while raising a child and then continuing to grow her business for more than fifteen years has been very inspiring to me.
    My family moved to California when I was about fourteen years old, so I stopped studying at Svetlana’s school at that time, but one of the things my ballet teacher in California, Wendy Lawson observed was that I must have had a wonderful ballet teacher in my early years, because I was a very disciplined and well-trained student. She was very right and I told her very happily and wistfully about my years at Adagio studying under Svetlana.
    Now I have graduated from college and I am considering what I would like to do as a career. I know I will continue to take ballet classes in the future, because ballet is one of the things I love most in life thanks to Svetlana and her wonderful school. Perhaps I will live in the D.C. area again later in life and in that case it would be very special for me if my children (in the case that I have them) could attend her school.
    Svetlana is one of the hardest-working, most passionate, and determined people I have met in my life. She inspires me and I hope that she will be rewarded for all her hard-work as well as her talent and ideas in the future.

    Frequently asked questions

    I offer a free assessment 1st class. I talk to the student/parents to clarify personal goals and preferences. I engage the student right away in achieving their personal goals making sure they feel comfortable knowing that I am their to guide them with my expertise to achieve THEIR goals. 

    I encourage my stusents' creativity and colaborate with them rather than lecturing or making them repeat everything I offer as information/feesback.

    Trained in the Vaganova method of Russan style ballet - both as a ballerina and as a ballet teacher.

    A college degree in ballet education and choreography. My college mentor prof. A. Yaneva is a student of the most successful pupil of A. Vaganova.

    International ballet academy Varna, Bulgaria, EU-

    pedagogy certificate in conservatory/professional level of ballet teaching.
