I recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from Virginia Tech with two majors, one in Biochemistry and one in Sociology, so I’ve had success over both sides of the academic spectrum. These dual strengths have been crucial for my tutoring methods. Through previous work as an online tutor, I have earned a 99% positive rating from more than 125 students, and more than 50 positive written reviews from students. Some reviews included “She adjusts with your pace and is very easy to follow” and “She was knowledgeable, patient, and supportive with a very difficult subject.” I’ve had the benefit of quality teachers and years of practice in science. I really want to bring that same enthusiasm and passion for science to any high school and college students that are struggling with science and math topics. A strong foundation in science is so important for success in further classes, and building the analytical skills necessary for intro topics will benefit every student later on in their college careers. As a tutor, I have developed strong strategies for breaking through common misconceptions students sometimes develop. I make strong use of analogies and comparisons to clarify and cement topics. Without those things, fear is major obstacle for most students. My main goal as a tutor is to make science a more positive experience for my students, so they can form the connections between lessons that they need to build a solid foundation for further coursework. I love science; I love learning about and understanding why our bodies and the world around us all work the way that they do. Science isn’t something far away and inaccessible, it’s something happening all around us, every second. I want to demystify science, especially chemistry and biochemistry, and help students not be so afraid of these crucial topics. Students learn in so many different ways and I’m so fortunate to be able to work with them and help them succeed in my favorite subjects. Patient
She was lovely very helpful. I will hire Sarah again
Sarah was very patient with everything that I wanted to go over and talked really clearly about my homework assignment.
For new students, I like to dive right in with a lesson that covers a homework assignment or other list of class questions. The best way for me to see how you learn is to experience that process with you directly, and to start helping you with assignments as soon as possible. For lessons I charge $20/hour. The time counted only includes the time spent actually helping you, not time spent arranging a good date to meet. If interested, please contact me directly at [email protected]
I first began as a tutor for other undergraduate students while in college after joining my university's professional chemistry organization. That was four years ago and I will never stop teaching! If interested, please contact me directly at [email protected]
Through working as an online tutor, I have worked with undergraduate students at universities all over the United States, and even some at universities abroad. If interested, please contact me directly at [email protected]
I recently spent three hours with a student going through a practice test for an upcoming intro Chemistry exam. It was so rewarding when the student messaged me after the eam that had scored a whole letter grade higher than her normal average for the class! While concepts are great, for classes that are more math-centered, especially Chemistry, it's rally great to have specific practice problems to work on that illustrate the topics that student struggle with. The concepts from different problems can always be applied to new situations. If interested, please contact me directly at [email protected]
Identify problems, for example from homework or exams, that you got wrong. Preferably, pick problems you got wrong because you didn't know where to start, instead of those where you were correct except for a calculator error. Once you have a pile of problems, try to group them by topic so the lesson can be organized by course idea. If interested, please contact me directly at [email protected]
