There are not too many composers with the background that I have. I come from a Lebanese family and grew up on the edge of poverty. In my music and my teachings, I try to bring out what makes us personal. Students will not just learn the technique of composition, but I will also work hard to foster their passion and creativity.
Music allows us to express the inexpressible. I love it when people listen to my music and they tell me it struck something deep inside them. There's a lot of pain around us today, and it's making it hard to express ourselves. I believe music can get us to open up in new and unexplored ways, and get us towards collective healing. That's the kind of inspiration I would like to foster in my students.

The first lesson starts off with a little interview. I ask the student why they want to compose, what their goals and aspirations are, and what I can do to help them get there. Any reason for composing is great, but I need to know what your goals are so I can best guide them. It's also exciting for me to hear what folks are passionate about, and how I can help them. Then, together, we create a list of concrete goals for the future, involving long term goals, and short term.
I have a Bachelor of Music in Composition, Cum Laude from Lawrence University. My music has been performed by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, Lawrence University Wind Ensemble, various phenomenal Musicians. My music has also been a part of Art Song Lab and the Queer Arts Festival in Vancouver.
My standard fee is $50 per lesson, but if you're a high school student eligible for free or reduced lunch, or if you're under fancial hardship for anyreason, you get a reduced price based on what your family can pay.
At the moment I do not have a car, so I will either ask students to come to me or we do a lesson over skype. If you would like me to come to you however, I will have to ask that you pay for a lyft to your place, which will just be added to the total bill.
Until I got to college, I was mostly self-taught. I wanted to find a teacher for composition but no one in my family could afford it. I don't want that to happen to anyone else, so I came back to the area to teach.
The world of composition is vast and wide. Every teacher is different and every composition student is very different. Take the time to find the right teacher for you.
