About Me: Shruti Patel – Founder of Math Pi Roots
Hi! I’m Shruti Patel, the heart behind Math Pi Roots Tutoring.
I moved to the United States in 2004 after earning my Master’s degree in Mathematics in India. Since then, I’ve dedicated the past 18 years to teaching high school math in the Virginia public school system. For 16 of those years, I’ve had the privilege of working in Title 1 schools, where I’ve supported students from underserved communities—many of whom face academic, financial, and personal challenges.
I’ve worked extensively with students receiving special education services as well as those with limited support at home. What drives me every day is helping students not only pass their end-of-year Math SOL exams, but also build confidence and develop a true love for mathematics. Over the years, my work with struggling and at-risk students has earned me recognition from school leadership for making a positive impact in students’ academic growth and motivation.
Some of my most meaningful moments have been the heartfelt letters I’ve received from students and parents sharing how math went from being a source of anxiety to a subject they enjoy and excel in.
In addition to classroom teaching, I run a growing educational Instagram community called @Math_Pi_Roots, where I create engaging and relatable math content for students everywhere.
At Math Pi Roots Tutoring, I offer affordable, personalized online math tutoring tailored to each student’s needs and circumstances. Whether it’s building foundational skills, preparing for standardized tests, or tackling advanced math topics, my goal is simple: to help every student I work with feel supported, empowered, and successful in math.
If you’re looking for a tutor who will meet your child where they are and help them grow both in skill and confidence, I’d love to work with you.
Services offered:
🧮 AP Calculus AB and BC
I offer support for both AP Calculus AB and BC, helping students build a strong conceptual understanding of calculus. Topics covered include limits, continuity, derivatives, applications of derivatives, definite and indefinite integrals, and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. For Calculus BC, I also cover parametric and polar functions, infinite series, and Taylor series. I provide AP-style practice problems, free-response questions, and multiple-choice strategies to help students prepare effectively for the AP exam.
⸻
📐 Pre-Calculus and Trigonometry
This course focuses on preparing students for Calculus. Topics include polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions, as well as conic sections, sequences and series, and limits. Trigonometry topics include trigonometric functions, graphs, identities, laws of sines and cosines, and applications of trigonometry. I help students master both algebraic manipulation and analytical thinking.
⸻
📊 Grade 11: Algebra 2 and Trigonometry
I cover quadratic functions, polynomials, rational expressions, radicals, logarithmic and exponential functions, systems of equations, and complex numbers. Trigonometry topics include the unit circle, graphing trig functions, trigonometric equations, and identities. I help students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
⸻
📏 Grade 10: Geometry
Geometry focuses on angles, triangles, quadrilaterals, circles, transformations, similarity, congruence, coordinate geometry, and right triangle trigonometry. I emphasize proof writing, logical reasoning, and real-world problem-solving. Students also get help with area, perimeter, volume, and surface area calculations.
⸻
➕ Grade 9: Algebra 1
Algebra 1 builds foundational skills in solving linear equations and inequalities, graphing functions, working with polynomials, factoring, and systems of equations. Students also learn functions, slopes, and intercepts. I focus on word problems and real-world applications to strengthen understanding.
⸻
✖️ Grades 6, 7, & 8: Pre-Algebra
Middle school math covers fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, proportions, integers, order of operations, and basic equations. Geometry concepts like area, volume, and surface area are also introduced. I help students develop number sense and prepare for Algebra 1
