About
Kari McKelvey graduated from Virginia Intermont College in 1990 with degree in Horsemanship. She is also a 1988 graduate of Cazenovia College with an Associates degree in Stable and Farm Management. Her career includes grooming for an Eventing professional in Bluemont, Va. Teaching summer riding camps at Blue Star camp in Asheville, NC and eventually going to Corporate America while raising her family.
After teaching locally in Hampton Roads since 2010 under another barn, she started her own business with her daughter, Alyssa.
Teaching hunt seat lessons, focusing on proper position and balance to riders of all ages. Horsemanship and patience is the foundation of Springfield Sport Horses. Going to local and A rated shows, attending clinics on various disciplines and taking horses off farm to broaden their experience as well as the riders helps to produce healthy, sane, sound happy horses and riders.
“You are never to old to learn” is her motto. She takes pride in watching students progress at their individual pace and comfort level.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Evaluate their experience and start them at basics of their skill sets.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started riding in 4-H at age 9 and competed in many disciplines till my eventual HS graduation. I then decided to make Equestrian world my career. I graduated with an Associate and Bachelor degree. I went on to several different employers before leaving and starting a family. I eventually returned to this life when my youngest decided to start riding.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Package A - pay as you go $50/ 1 hr session
Package B - $160 buy 4 at a time and receive $10 off ea lesson
Package C - $35 1/2 hr session
Package D - $25 20 min lunge line lesson
