Mark Hamilton is a Virginia Beach, VA based photographer with a passion for serving families and small businesses through his photography. His laid-back nature and desire to build lasting relationships with his clients is at the forefront of his photography. Mark willing shares the stories behind his personal photography, tip/tricks, and experiences to help you get to know him and understand his passion for capturing and preserving the fleeting moments of life.
The thing I enjoy most about teaching photography seeing the passion others have for photography and helping them develop their own photography skills. I love seeing a student's expression change when a concept or skill really begins to click!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Photography is part art and part science. I help my students understand the basics behind the science so that they can explore their creative side with confidence.
Every student is different: background, experience, and how they learn. My approach to teaching is student-specific and leverages their particular strengths.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
From teaching swim lessons and gymnastics to teaching young Navy Officers how to operate warships, I've been teaching in some capacity for more than 20 years. Today, I not only teach photography, but I also coach gymnastics.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
1st Lesson: $60 // Subsequent Lessons: $45-$55
Standard lessons are approx. 1 hr long and are tailored to the student's experience and understanding.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching at a young age. My first experience teaching was working with younger kids on my swim team, helping them to refine their technique. This initial experience, sparked my passion for teaching and helping others learn and grow.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
First, figure out what you want to photograph. While the basics can be taught by any good teacher, each photography area has its own little nuances that are best taught by someone who is familiar with them.
