About
Hello Student!
My name is Eric Newton. I have been working with cameras professionally and artistically for 14 years and have a wealth of knowledge to pass on to aspiring photographic artists! I have a degree in Film and Media studies from George Mason University, a Professional Certificate in Visual Storytelling from Maine Media College and have been a Teacher’s Assistant at the College level helping students in classes covering Drone Photography, Humanistic Photo Essays, Narrative Video Storytelling, New Media and Product, Portrait, Documentary and Fine Art Photography. I am also very well versed in printmaking which is the final step in bringing your work to life! I have worked as a camera assistant, event photographer, director of photography, photojournalist and editor. Working with video and still cameras has afforded me a very thorough understanding of the field and the tools we use as visual artists to achieve the effects we desire and capture the moments we call our own. I believe myself to be an excellent choice as an instructor from which you will gain valuable knowledge in you development as a photographer! Lesson times can be as long or short as you like. I charge fifty dollars an hour. I can assist you with all aspects of the creative process from capture to edit and then export. I hope to hear from you!
Best Wishes in your Quest!!!
Eric Newton
I enjoy capturing moments, telling stories, recording history, and making art happen with my camera. I thoroughly enjoy helping others find the joy that making images brings me. I have a lot of fun teaching creative people the language of light and photography!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Initially I will need to assess where the student's technical knowledge of the mechanics and functions of their camera begins and ends. I want them to be able to wield the camera to capture their subject effectively. When the student has become comfortable with the manual functions of their camera practical application of those functions will begin. Creative application commences thereafter in alignment with the student's interests.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
B.A. Film and Media Studies, George Mason University
Prof. Certificate in Visual Storytelling, Maine Media College
