About

I try to individualize my curriculum for each student. I weave your interests and goals into my lessons. For example, if your goal is to enter nursing college classes, I will help prepare you for this by using topics relating to nursing in your curriculum. My students are very pleased with how practical my curriculum is toward meeting their goal.

I enjoy watching my students succeed by realizing their personal goal. It gives me satisfaction to know that I assisted someone to achieve a goal they formerly thought would be "too difficult" for them.

We had both of our kids learn phonics and beginner’s reading from Ms Debra. She did an amazing job with both kids. They both were always looking forward for the classes. The best part is that and Debra had custom curriculum for them , making it impactful. Would definitely recommend to my friends.

Deborah is an organized, hard working teacher that makes sure her students learn at their own pace as well as keep her students engaged in the learning! My daughter has said multiple times that she is generous and passionate about what she does and therefore is able to treat all her students with care and most importantly, give them the help they need!

Debra is an excellent, excellent tutor, one of the BEST you can find around here in the Seattle area! She taught my niece many years ago. My brother highly recommended her. She mentored my son on writing and vocabulary late last year. We cant be more happy with her services. She is very nice and very patient with my son. My son not only learned so much from her. More importantly, he had so much fun learning from her. He expanded his vocabulary very quickly in a short period of time, improved his learning a lot too. I would highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for a private tutor.

Debra has been an excellent instructor for my son. She provides lessons that keep him engaged, and also provides detailed feedback to me after each weeks lessons. With feedback, we are able to identify areas of focus for the subsequent weeks.

Debra was my sons English tutor. Just like many boys, my son was into video gaming, not too much about reading and writing. Debra is an experienced, engaging, and patient tutor. Debra reviewed my sons writings and helped him understand how to convey a message clear and concise. She also helped my son to improve his English grammar. My son had a good experience working with Debra.

Frequently asked questions

I start with your goal.  Every student (or parent of a student) has a goal for tutoring.  Your goal may be to catch-up or gain skills academically.  Or your goal may be to better understand classwork or complete an assignment in your best work.  Whatever your goal is, I listen.  We talk on the phone before the first lesson and create a strategy for how to reach your goal.  By the time we meet online, I will have prepared for the class with either my own curriculum or with resources, information, and skills to guide you toward successfully meeting that goal. I use your assignments, my curriculum, your interests, and my skills as an instructor all with the focus of helping you achieve your goal.

My master's degree is in counseling psychology, which relates well to working with students of all ages.  As I discover what your goals are for increasing your skills, I also seek to find what "roadblocks" you may have encountered.  Knowing these, I try to work with you on creating curriculum best suited for you.
