I am passionate about helping students learn about the creative process through the use of color, brush stroke, observation and learning how to play the piano. The canvases we create will often include images taken from a students imamgination. A theme is decided on prior to each meeting. The object of my instruction is to have fun with the aid of ones imagination and sometimes we include a storyline.

For piano lessons I use many different approaches which inclulde fun keyboard activities, movement, singing, clapping, listening, computer piano learning games. I provide group and individual instruction. My emphasis is on expression and performance preparation. I have been teaching for 20 year period, many years as a substitute teacher where I have experienced many different learning styles, and developmental stages of students. I am able to quickly access, with emotional intelligence, how to work with the diversity that exists in our contemporary classrooms. I have 10 years of classical music training, and a Master's In Teaching from Seattle University in the area of elementary education I have taught general music, orchestra and choir as well as art. I provide piano lessons at my home studio and art experiences at a huge studio room in Seattle & Des Moines, WA. Additionally, I have toured and performed many major master choral works as a part of professional community choirs located in King County Washington

Children are so very imaginative and open to exploration. really enjoy having students express themselves artistically with paint, canvas, sometimes using a favorite childrens story with a specific theme. Often we will create a narrative and illustrate it with paint, music and movement.

With piano lessons, a group approach is encouraged where each student has their own keyboard. Students find joy in playing with a partner or echo playing. Private lessons are also offered.

Frequently asked questions

During my very first contact with a new student, I try to get to know them with a fun activity.  For art, I will access their motivation with an open ended painting activity where they can mix colors, use different types of brushes or add other elements.  With piano, I plan a game where they can get comfortable with the black and white keys and a rhythm activity with percussion instruments, clapping or singing.

I have 10 years of classical piano training, and performance, as well being a past member of professional community choirs that performed frequently.  My credentials include a Master's of Teaching from Seattle University in teacher education, a BA in innerdisciplinary liberal arts from the Evergreen State College, and an AA in graphic design from FIT, New York city.

Typically, I charge by each 45 to 1 hr. lesson - $30-40 which includes a paint experience or music lesson. Group lessons cost $15 per each group member.  5-10 per group with 5 keyboards. 1 hour session.
