For over 11 years I owned and ran my own art store, and art school. It was called "The Graphic Cat School of Illustration and Cartoonng."
By running this school and store, I have extensive knowlege in art materials, selling and buying art materials, consulting customers on the proper useage of thes materials.
I have taught for several years at the Tualatin Recreational Center realistic Illustration, cartooning, and air brush. Using all mediums from pencil, to colored pencil, ink, and water color.
I have done several seminars at many of the high schools, and middle scools around the portland area. I have also taught art for troubled children that have a criminal record at the Portland School of Correctional Behavior.
I have completed many Graphic Design projects for my customers. They enclude Realors, Doctors, Vets, Hairdressers, Veterinarians, hardware stores, resturants, shirt logos, making all types of greeting cards .
I am an author and I currently have a book out called "My Cat Can Draw Better Than I Can...WHY?" which is a book that is filled with different ways of looking at perspective, and other art tecniques that will get you to draw with more understanding.
I have extensive knowlege of Photoshop, and have worked on other versions of Illustrator, and drawing programs, but my go to program is Photoshop.
I have spent a summer at a art market selling my wooden boxes and wood burning projects.
My vocation was a correctional officer for women and on my spare time I would teach the inmates how to draw.
I have done cartooning for several gag writers and have had my cartoons published for several years in leatherneck Magazine a marine Corp 'zine' that is widely distrubuted thuout the states.
I have also taught at my church cartooning and realistic illusturation for 2 years.
I am currently writing a graphic historical novel that is a combo of sci fi, and fantacy, on the last days, using anthropromorphic cats and animals to depict what is going to happen in these last days. the animals are sci fi, but the times are not.
I have worked with a team on a series of cats called Bluz Kat who is a musical magical cat that has had several adventures with his other musical cats companions. I was starting to write a book on using these cats to teach about the musical notes.
My passion when I teach is to make sure the students can use their knowlege eventually to draw anything they want, in any style. but I teach realistic art first. then we can branch out into comic books, cartooning, or anime, or other styles.
My lessons go from using the pencil, then the pen, then the colored pencil, then colored ink, which then gets you ready for watercolor and beyond. You will have an extensive understanding of shading, and thinking 3-d. perspective, and how to understand what you are drawing, by understanding the 'physics of the piece you are doing.

My motto for artists is...TAKE YOUR TIME...and if you want to draw you will work at it, but you also have a life. and you can get a lesson any time you want, you learn at your own pace. I have had students be with me for over 20 to 25 years.
my cost for teaching is 10.00 an hour and usually the lesson is about 1.5 hours to 2. never longer.
I like teaching on line believe it or not because the student can scan their work to me and I then will download it correct it, then return it back to them. Snail mail is good too.
if you would like more info on my classes please email me at [email protected].

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When a student comes to me I will give them an outline of what they will learn. I want the students to have a professional portfolio so that if they want to get into the art world my goals for them is a scolarship to an art school or any school's art deptartment. Or to get a job at a chosen firm, such as Disney, or Warner Brothers or other high paying and prestegious studios. Their portfolio will consist of several illustations in pencil, ink, colored pencil, colored ink, and watercolor. the themes will range from portraits, to animal to anatomy on both human and animal, for without that knowlege the drawings will be flat. to book illustrations, graphic design pieces and subjects of their choice. this will take a long time, but the students finish it at their own leisure.
