About

I recently moved back to the Seattle area after spending three years in Texas teaching a studio of 35 middle and high school flutists. Under my tutelage they improved their skills, gained new appreciation for music, won local competitions (one received a brand new professional flute for her award!) and one received an offer to attend UNT to study music for their undergraduate degree.

I also pursue an active playing career, but I am especially focused on teaching. My students range from absolute beginner to advanced high school and adult amateur students and I appreciate teaching all grade levels. I tailor lessons to the student and we work on technique, musicality, understanding of music, and all sorts of different styles from classical to contemporary to popular music, depending on the goals and preferences of the student.

Please email me with any questions you may have! I'd love to teach you or your child flute lessons!

Teaching and sharing my love of music is one of my favorite things about my job as a musician. I enjoy watching a student's understanding of music grow along with their playing proficiency. I like the moment when we have been working on a difficult piece of music or a difficult concept and the student understands it fully for the first time. My favorite part of my job is seeing my students come in excited about the work they have done the past week and ready to learn more about music and the flute.

Frequently asked questions

When I start working with a new student, I typically begin by getting to know them and their reasons for playing the flute. Every student is different and I will tailor my approach differently depending on if you are an adult coming back to the flute after years away, or a child learning for the very first time, or a student who has played in band for years but never taken private lessons.

For most lessons, we will work on assigned technique exercises, band/orchestra music as needed, a solo piece, and a duet.

I hold two music performance degrees, a BM from the University of Oregon and an MM from the University of North Texas. While doing my graduate work I maintained a studio of around 30-35 students taking weekly lessons, some of whom won competitions and placed in their District Solo/Ensemble contests while I was their teacher. One young woman won a brand-new professional level flute and another was accepted to study music at the University of North Texas while under my tutelage. I'm very proud of the hard work that all my past and current student do.
