About

I am a dedicated, knowledgeable, and active teacher based in the Interbay neighborhood in Seattle, conveniently located close to Magnolia, Queen Anne, and Ballard. My students range from absolute beginner to advanced high school and adult amateur students and I appreciate teaching all grade levels. I tailor lessons to the student and we work on technique, musicality, understanding of music, and all sorts of different styles from classical to contemporary to popular music, depending on the goals and preferences of the student. I teach six days a week, perform often in various Seattle-area ensembles, and am active on several music nonprofit boards in the area.

Please email me with any questions you may have! I'd love to teach you or your child flute lessons!

Teaching and sharing my love of music is one of my favorite things about my job as a musician. I enjoy watching a student's understanding of music grow along with their playing proficiency. I like the moment when we have been working on a difficult piece of music or a difficult concept and the student understands it fully for the first time. My favorite part of my job is seeing my students come in excited about the work they have done the past week and ready to learn more about music and the flute.

Frequently asked questions

When I start working with a new student, I typically begin by getting to know them and their reasons for playing the flute. Every student is different and I will tailor my approach differently depending on if you are an adult coming back to the flute after years away, or a child learning for the very first time, or a student who has played in band for years but never taken private lessons.

For most lessons, we will work on assigned technique exercises, band/orchestra music as needed, a solo piece, and a duet.

I hold two music performance degrees, a BM from the University of Oregon and an MM from the University of North Texas. I have taught in Oregon, Texas, Washington, India, and Antigua, West Indies, and performed across Europe, Asia, and North America. My students have won various awards including placing in the SFS Horsfall Competition, the SYAMFA finals, winning their District Solo/Ensemble contests, and other awards. One student won a brand-new professional level flute and several have been admitted to top-tier music colleges with scholarships. I'm very proud of the hard work that all my past and current student do.

I charge $80 for a 60 minute lesson.
