Private Japanese Tutoring
About
Hello!
My name is Brennan, and I am a recent cum laude graduate of the University of Washington with a degree in International Studies (honors), Linguistics, and East Asian Languages & Literature with a focus in Japanese. I received my departmental honors after completing my honors thesis on Japanese discursive analysis, and received multiple national and academic awards in my field. I am also certified advanced N2 by the JLPT, and am working towards N1 in the near future. Outside of academics, I have professional experience working in international settings, such as from the United Nations in Geneva all the way to Kinokuniya Japanese Bookstores.
Starting in 2020, I have been tutoring my peers from a myriad of backgrounds and ages for quite some time. Within the linguistics department, I have ample experience with childhood language acquisition and pedagogy.
My interests are in primarily in the humanities and social sciences, such as languages and history. In fact, some of my favorite classes in the Japanese language have been reading the classics (e.g. The Tale of Genji, Heike, etc.), novel translation work, and even Japanese sociolinguistics. I like to take a very detailed and scientific approach to language pedagogy, while also employing fun, engaging methods to help people learn. I find it the most rewarding!
I look forward to working with people, whether it's for the purpose of the JLPT or simply learning about Japanese language & culture, and indulging in the fantastic culture and worlds of some of the world's most significant languages!
