About

*please note: I only do online lessons*

I am a lively, positive and enthusiastic instructor. I truly believe everyone is an artist and my job is to nurture each student's art to life.

I teach painting, drawing, crafts and creative self care classes. I believe in the transformative and healing power of art.

I have been teaching art since 2006, and online since 2013. I have 15 years of experience teaching painting, drawing, crafts and sculpture to students aged 7 – 90+ years old.

I took most of the classes to earn my MFA online. Both learning and teaching online has given me a working expertise of the challenges students face when learning online and the great benefits that arise as well.

I am exhibit my work internationally and am a published artist. I have been involved in running galleries since 2006. I run my own art business and have an immense level of knowledge of artistic technique and professional practice.

I love watching students grow as artists. I love watching barriers be broken, mentally and creatively. I view my role as a facilitator to allow each student's art to move through them in it's own unique way. I get an energy boost from teaching. I love my job and being a part of the pride students gain from creative practice.

Personal Power Painting is not your average acrylic painting class. It’s so much more! I was drawn to the class because of its unique use of reflection, introspection and personal care in the painting process. I am very interested in both personal and artistic development and this class brings both together in a very relaxed, supportive, retreat-like format. I learned different ways to tap into my creativity to make a high personalized painting. Unlike my previous paintings, the one I created in this class incorporates so much meaningful personal symbolism that I am using it as the logo for my new creative business. Thanks, Shelley, for teaching me how I can bring my whole self into the creative process!

You are such a wonderful teacher! You’ve helped me not be afraid to put brush to canvas, and let it flow. You support me in not judging my own work when it was in progress, and support me in trusting the process, all while giving helpful guidance and direction. Though I may be a creative person in various ways in my life, I don’t consider myself an artist. But over all of the years, and all the classes and workshops I’ve taken from you, you never made me feel less than, and only build me up. You’re an inspiration and one of the absolute most talented artists I know!

    Frequently asked questions

I start by defining goals and timelines. We speak about learning styles, and any negative creative experiences that happened in the past. I customize lessons based on each student's goals. I adapt as necessary as we go along.

I have a Master's Degree (MFA) in figurative oil painting from the Academy of Art University San Francisco.

    I charge $60 per hour.

Shortly after I started my Master's Degree program my dad asked me to give him art lessons. Friends asked me to teach art to their children. After I earned my MFA I started teaching at a senior center.

Children, adults and seniors. I have taught beginners and advanced students, aged 7 - 90 + years old.

Artists coming together for artwalk events again after Covid. Incredibly heartwarming.

Think about the main thing you want to gain out of your lessons and find a teacher whose work exhibits what you would like to learn.

Try out a teacher, don't get locked in. See if how they instruct and demonstrate fits with your learning style.

What are your personal and professional creative goals?

When would you like to achieve these goals?

Where will you make your art and where will you learn from your teacher?

What kind of teacher do you want? A step - by - step guide? Someone who shows / tells you something and you figure it out and ask questions along the way? Someone who you follow or someone who follows you?
