Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First let’s start with what kind of paint you want to work with. Once we have identified your chosen medium, I am confident that you will learn many good habits, tips, and technique. Once we know what you’re good at we can see what you want to improve. Together we will close the distance between where you are now, and where you want to be. I call this the frustration gap. My methods are made to take the frustration out of drawing, watercolor, acrylic, and oil. Together we will identify your goals, talents, and areas needing improvement. We will work towards understanding your chosen style, method, or vision, and create a realistic timeline to keep accountability and show measurable competence.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been an artist all my life, have taken advanced studio training, life drawing, teaching watercolor, acrylic and oil for years, many private seminars in life drawing and all’s prima. Oh yeah, and a tattoo artist for 18 years!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Class fees:
Drawing is $40/hour
watercolor is $50/hour
acrylic is $50/hour
oil paint is $100/2 hours
How did you get started teaching?
I am the oldest of 17+ grandkids and would have art class with my cousins all the time as I found myself in a state of constant babysitting. I found that my class of kids ranging in age all really loved to make art. It’s calmlng and cathartic. We still get together and make art sometimes!
What types of students have you worked with?
All skill and ability levels. I have worked with sensitive learners who are very shy, or nonverbal, as well as adults with developmental disabilities, as well as those who just want focused tutoring in a relaxing, creativity-conducive environment.
