About

I take a creative approach to my art lessons. The process of creating is much more important than the finished art project. There are no right or wrong answers in art, it is about personal expression. I encourage my students to experiment with different materials and techniques. By listening to and closely observing where each student is at everyone receives individualized attention. Everyone is welcome and valued.

Explore the art skills and materials that you want to learn at your own pace. Investigate your choice of painting, drawing or mixed media. I am well versed in teaching watercolor, acrylic, oil paint, pencil, charcoal and much more. Styles range from classic to contemporary. All ages welcome.

I studied visual art at the University of Washington in Seattle Wahington, as well as at Spokane Falls Community College in Spokane Washington. Later, in graduate school, I studied visual art and graphic design at Eastern Washington University. I have shown my artwork in many venues including Southern Oregon University, Ashland Oregon, Spokane Falls Community College, Spokane, Washington and Washington State University, Tricities Campus, Richland, Washington. My artwork is in the Public State Art Collection at Tacoma Community College, Tacoma, Washington. I currently live and teach art in Vancouver Washington.

I love teaching art to others. Art is really a way of seeing, living creatively and expressing that creativity through drawing or painting. Sharing the joy of learning new skills is one of the best parts of being a teacher. I also love seeing every student's artwork because I know how much work and passion had gone into it.

I began teaching art lessons as an Art Discovery volenteer in my children's school. I became a school Art Discovery Coordinator and taught there for 6 years in the art program. I taught and trained other adult volenteers in art education. I eventually expanded my teaching out from there.

I have worked with all age levels of students as well as adults.

I recenty taught a botanical sketching and watercolor class for adults. It was an online class and I really enjoyed demonstraiting new art techniques for the students. It was fantastic to see everyone's progress at the end of class. Everyone's artwork was really unique and truly amazing.

Make sure that the teacher you choose knows what you want to learn. It would be very disappointing to learn that your teacher doesn't know anything about oil painting, if that is what you want to focus on. Every art teacher should also have a good foundation in drawing and art history since those are essential for learning and moving forward in art.

Consider your goals and expectations for your lessons. Be open and discuss want you want to get our of the class with your teacher.
