What is your typical process for working with a new student?
During our consultation, I would like to know where you are in your creativity and what your vision is. From there, we would come up with a plan. That could be anything, from setting up your own studio, learning to draw or paint, or finish that painting you’ve always wanted to do.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have taught art to all ages for over 14 years. I have knowledge in charcoal, pastel, watercolor, oil and acrylic.
A mixed media artist myself, has presented many personal challenges, helping me to carve out my own creative path.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$25 per 90 minute lesson (in Waukesha) if outside the area, we can discuss a reasonable payment for that.
How did you get started teaching?
After deciding I was no longer interested being a graphic designer I just couldn’t sit behind a computer anymore. Ironically, I found a fine artist in California that reunited my love of art. He took the “overwhelming” out of fine art and just broke everything down into a simple more manageable learning experience. I was hooked!
Eventually, I moved back to Wisconsin. Carrying with me not only his knowledge of art, but now, 14 years later, my own.
What types of students have you worked with?
I don’t think there is a student I haven’t worked with. From the frustrated artist, to the insecure, to the perfectionist to even the super talented. Those artists come in all ages as well, from 4 to 84 I have worked with all creative levels.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Honestly, I've been dragging my feet on whether I should get back into teaching. I've been a stay-at-home mom for 5 years and just wasn't sure if I should add that to my plate.
I recently had an encounter with a woman who was visibly frustrated that she couldn't find art classes in her area. I just couldn't let her walk away from me so upset. It was at that moment I decided to jump back in.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone you feel compatible with. Someone that can re-ignite that love for being creative.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Just be really honest with what you are looking for. Teachers come in all varieties, but we all enjoy seeing students growth and happiness. Be patient, you will find one that resonates.
