Youre own commitment to art as a career has provided the opportunity for me to stick with art during high school and set me up to continue it in my adult life, for which I am very grateful. Your class has expanded my experience with artistic mediums I otherwise never would have tried, like charcoal drawings and calligraphy for instance. It has pushed me to try art styles I otherwise wouldnt have as well, such as still life, impressionism and realism, or even just the subject matter of people. On my own, I probably would have just stuck with colored pencils and cartoons. No way would I have attempted painting a huge canvas like we did! Youve taught me to value getting the shape of the big picture and proportions right for detail to look good—a lesson you know I desperately needed. You have given me a more complete understanding of my other subjects by exposing me to the movement of art throughout history and culture, and educating me on the classics. Thanks to this, I now better realize and recognize the correlation between mans mindset and his artistic expression. So while youve given me the chance to work on artistic skills in different and new ways, youve also helped me better realize the place of art in the human story.
