Jane H. says, "Once in a while, if we are very lucky, a truly gifted, inspirational teacher enters our life. For me that teacher is Shannon Green.
I was working in photography for many years, but had a real longing to explore painting. I signed up for a class that Shannon was teaching at LACMA and instinctively knew that I wanted to explore studying painting with him privately. That has has turned out to be a great choice.
I have had the pleasure of working with him for well over a year now. My very first lesson told me that I was in the right hands to learn about and experience making art. We work in my home for 2 hours most weeks. Shannon came in the very first day we met, completely equipped with all we would need to begin - a beginning collection of water based oil paints, palette, brushes, color wheel, brush cleaner, canvas, the works and we were off and running.
He began by introducing me to all of these tools and then laying down the principles of color and color mixing and the various techniques for applying paint. I still consider myself to be pretty much a small notch above a beginner, but I am excited and inspired to keep, as Shannon often suggests, “putting paint where it ain’t” Since then I have gone on to, with his guidance, finish several paintings. Each attempt on my part would lay the ground work for another principle that he would then teach me - composition, perspective, light, shadow, the unique properties of different tubes of paint.
Along the way, I have learned a great deal from Shannon about the history of art, various styles of painting, and on and on.
He has a long history to draw upon not only as an artist in his own right, but in teaching privately, in museum settings, and in classrooms with students of all ages. This all in addition to his own artistic expression.
Shannon has a wonderful way of leading and following at the same time. He will always intuit where I am trying to go. I never ever feel judged and never experience any false compliments. This allows me to trust him and feel free to ask questions that he may have answered before, but slipped my mind.
For a really wonderful adventure into the world of painting, I wholeheartedly recommend master teacher Shannon Green." Read more
